Surfing, history, pine forest and stunning coastline – the Côte d’Argent

Landes

One of the most popular surfing destinations in Europe along the Côte d’Argent, the Landes region in South West France offers a stunning coastline, seaside towns and villages, combined with a vast natural landscape made up of maritime pine forest.

Popular with both residents and tourists, the region has plenty to offer, including many hidden gems; the Gallo-Roman vestiges, famous abbeys such as Saint-Sever and impressive renaissance bastides, such as Mont-de-Marsan. After the Great War, its architecture evolved further and was heavily influenced by the ArtDeco movement, a style which is well appreciated in the palaces of Dax.

The second largest department in France and home to the largest forest in the country, the Landes follows the Atlantic coast from the popular holiday destination of Biscarrosse, down the coastline to Biarritz and Bayonne.

Stretching more than 9,000km², the Landes is a sought-after region for real estate, offering beach life, countryside living and equestrian estates as well as the gateway to the Pyrénées Atlantiques region and its mountains.
