Hannibal Renberg, « Chroniques Urbaines »
Galerie Neilag & Maxwell-Baynes | Christie’s International Real Estate
From 16 March to 15 June 2026, Galerie Neilag shall take up residence in the heart of the Maxwell-Baynes | Christie’s International Real Estate prestigious boutique in Bordeaux. This exclusive collaboration presents ‘Urban Chronicles,’ a solo exhibition by street photographer Hannibal Renberg—an invitation to a city stroll oscillating between the whimsical and the poetic.
A striking modus operandi!
Armed with nothing more than a smartphone, Hannibal flushes out the unexpected and the burlesque from the everyday, crafting what he terms “iphoneography.” Firmly rooted in the purest tradition of photojournalism, his images are captured in the moment and remain entirely unedited. They serve as a documentary record of the occasionally jarring coexistence between globalised advertising imagery and local, grassroots reality.
Hannibal sugars no pills. He depicts a raw, unvarnished reality: from the representation of women to the ageing of the body; from the ostentation of luxury to the solitude of the destitute. Yet, empathy and humour remain his watchwords. His gaze is never accusatory; instead, he grants the viewer absolute freedom of interpretation.

Hannibal Renberg, from paper to pixel
Born in 1970, this French photographer spent many years mastering the art of analogue photography, fastidiously developing his own prints in the darkroom before seamlessly transitioning his craft to the digital realm. A psychology graduate, this self-styled “pedestrian” wanders the streets in a constant pursuit of visual collisions.
Please note: In 2015, Forbes magazine identified Hannibal Renberg as one of the four street photographers to watch on Instagram (@leoleoparis – 43k followers).
